Will Manual Labor Still Be Needed After Installing a Fully Automatic Car Wash Machine?

      A fully automatic car wash machine is a fully automated car washing device controlled by a computer program to execute washing commands automatically. The main types are gantry (or roll-over) type and tunnel type. When a gantry-type car wash machine operates, the vehicle remains stationary while the equipment moves back and forth along a guide rail to complete the wash. In a tunnel-type car wash machine, the equipment remains stationary, and the vehicle is pulled through the washing area by a guide rail to complete the wash, then drives away afterward.

       Throughout this process, the vehicle owner only needs to park the car in the correct position and wait for the wash to be completed before driving away. No manual intervention from the car wash shop is required during this process. The introduction of fully automatic car wash machines saves time, effort, and labor for both the shop and the customer. It is much more convenient compared to traditional manual car washing, which often faces challenges like "difficulty hiring staff" and "long queues."

       Automated equipment is gradually replacing manual labor in more and more fields, and within the car wash industry, the replacement of traditional manual car washing by fully automatic car wash machines is also an inevitable trend. However, one might still see staff present at some fully automatic car wash facilities. Why is that?

       Current fully automatic car wash machine technology is fully capable of operating unattended, with the equipment automatically executing the entire process. The main reasons why some locations still have staff present are likely the following two points:

       1.  A machine model without a drying system was chosen, so manual drying/wiping of the vehicle body is still required after washing.

       2.  Interior cleaning services are offered. Currently, fully automatic car wash machines do not have the functionality to clean the vehicle interior. Therefore, after the exterior wash is completed, staff is still needed to clean the inside of the vehicle.
